Eight quizzed after unprovoked race attack

EIGHT people have been arrested by Kent Police after what is being treated as a racially motivated attack.

Three people were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from a broken nose to cuts and bruises following the attack at about 11pm on Saturday evening at Red Chilli takeaway restaurant in Waterdales, Northfleet.

Members of staff were assaulted both inside and outside the restaurant and the shop and vehicles belonging to the staff were damaged.

North Kent area commander Superintendent Martin Hewitt said: "This incident was a disgraceful series of physical assaults on the staff and criminal damage to the property. The attack was completely unprovoked and is without doubt racially motivated."

Police have arrested eight people, one of who has been released on bail.

Anyone who witnessed the attack is asked to contact Kent Police on 01474 565095 or crime stoppers on 0800 55511.
