Eight-hour dash to help churches

CYCLISTS and walkers will attempt an eight-hour dash around hundreds of Kent churches on Saturday, September 13.

More than 700 churches in the county will take part in the annual sponsored bike ride of Friends of Kent Churches.

Entrants are challenged to visit as many of them as possible on foot or by bike between 10am and 6pm. Cash raised goes towards vital church repairs.

Last year the event raised £115,000 and grants were given to 23 Kent churches. Jill Niblett, of Friends of Kent Churches, said: "Each rider raises a certain amount. Half of that goes to a church they nominate and the other half goes into the Friends of Kent Churches fund.

"Money from the fund is allocated to needy churches all over the county. We can give quite big amounts to pay for repairs, so it really can make a difference."

More information is available from participating churches or from Friends of Kent Churches on 01732 842549.
