Eco warriors reveal power plant shutdown plan

Eco-activists have revealed how they plan to shut down Medway’s Kingsnorth power station later this summer.

Organisers of the 2008 Camp for Climate Action have revealed the protest will climax in a spectacular mass action to shut down the coal-fired plant.

Top of the list of tactics is an armada of rafts, which will be launched on the river Medway in a bid to circumvent the power station’s fencing.

CCA organiser Connor O’Brien, said: “With last week’s train hijack [at Drax, North Yorkshire], climate change activists have demonstrated that they are capable of pulling off spectacular, effective actions that maintain a high regard for safety and for the local community.”

Last year’s day of action saw 1,500 people close down BAA’s Heathrow head office for more than 24 hours, despite the best efforts of the Metropolitan Police. This year those at the camp, organisers say, will be joined by thousands more from across the UK to converge on Kingsnorth via land, sea and air.
