Dutchman in dock after death crash

A DUTCH driver whose passenger was killed in a motorway crash has appeared at Maidstone Crown Court, accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Ahmed Kariye watched the proceedings via a TV link from Elmley Prison, Sheppey, where he has been remanded in custody.

The 39-year-old is accused of causing the death of Xasan Farax on the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between junctions 10 and 11 last month. The passenger died from brain damage.

Judge Jeremy Carey heard on Friday that Kariye had not been able to raise a £17,500 surety to obtain bail. He was remanded until January 6, when a plea to the charge will be entered.
