Driver 'stable' after high winds crash on M2

A MOTORIST was injured when his car crashed into the central reservation on the M2 motorway during high winds.

The accident happened on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 bridge at Rochester just before 7.30am on Saturday

The driver was taken to Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital where his condition was later described as “stable”.

Kent Police Insp Mark Holt said: “The high winds may have been a contributory factor but that is subject to investigation.

Two fire engines were called to the scene of the accident and stayed there on standby.

The bridge was closed until 10am, causing traffic congestion on the A2 at Rochester Bridge and Corporation Street as drivers used alternative routes.

The Met Office had issued a severe weather warning the night before. The conditions caused disruption to many weekend sporting fixtures across the county.
