A DRIVER is recovering after being knocked unconscious when his lorry overturned on the A228 at Grain, near Rochester.

He was taken to Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital with facial injuries. The articulated lorry was carrying around 20 tonnes of acid powder from Thamesport.

The incident happened at about 7.30pm on Tuesday but the recovery operation was delayed until Wednesday morning.

A 180-ton crane was called in from Middlesex to lift the lorry and the road was closed for more than an hour while the operation was carried out.
