A 25-year-old man has appeared in court on two charges of causing death by dangerous driving after a father and son died following a road crash.

Alan Oliver has indicated that he will be pleading not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to the charges.

Steven Pethig, 27, and his seven-year-old son Billy, from the Isle of Grain, near Rochester, were struck by a Rover car after a breakdown on the notorious A228 on December 10 last year.

Mr Pethig died at the scene in Malmaynes Hall Road, Stoke, near Rochester, and his son died in hospital.

Oliver, of Fairfield Avenue, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, will return to court on June 12 to enter pleas to the charges. Judge Andrew Patience, QC, continued unconditional bail.

The funeral of the father and son took place at Medway Crematorium, Chatham, on January 11.
