Driver dragged ex on car bonnet

A dangerous driver faces jail after dragging his ex through a pub car park on the bonnet of a BMW.

Glyn Wright was dumped by his girlfriend Beverley Adamson in March after selling her his motor.

But on the night of March 6 Wright told her he was taking the car back - and a row sparked outside the White Horse in Hawkinge.

Canterbury Crown Court heard the 34-year-old dragged the barmaid out of the driver’s seat and started the motor.

Miss Adamson stood in front as he shouted at her to move out of the way before driving off with her on the bonnet.

Terrified Miss Adamson – who claimed he was using the car as a tool to talk to her - clung for dear life and screamed for the police.

Her hands got trapped and she suffered injuries, she said.

Eventually Miss Adamson managed to yank her hands free, one hand bleeding and the other sore.

The car had come to a halt in Coombe Way and Wright was arrested soon after.

The defendant, of Broomfield Road, Folkestone, admitted being in a dispute about the car's ownership but denied causing actual bodily harm.

He said he went to talk to Miss Adamson because she had left a text message saying she was pregnant - a claim rejected in court.

Wright was cleared of assault but convicted of dangerous driving and bailed for a pre-sentence report.

Judge Michael O'Sullivan warned it was a serious matter which crossed the custody threshold.
