Driver, 19, dies in crash

A TEENAGE driver was killed and three passengers injured when a car crashed into a brick wall in Northfleet last night.

The 19-year-old from Wallis Park, Northfleet, was driving along London Road at about 9.20pm when he lost control of his Ford Escort which crashed into a wall.

Three female passengers in the car were injured. One received serious head injuries, described as life-threatening, one had serious injuries and the other was not badly hurt.

One of the girls lives in Wallis Park, the other two come from Dartford. A police spokesman said: "It seems the driver was heading along the A226 towards Gravesend and the junction with Dover Road and Springhead.

"It appears he lost control as he came over the crest to turn the corner, mounted the pavement and struck a wall. No witnesses have come forward to suggest another vehicle was involved."

Firefighters from Gravesend were called to cut the dead man and one of the passengers free. Police are appealing for witnesses.
