An insurance broker, who was twice over the legal alcohol limit when he knocked down a young mum, has been told he faces a prison sentence.

Paul Clemments, 28, of Perth Road, Beckenham, admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Croydon Crown Court on Monday.

He knocked down Cheryl McGoldrick, 26, with his VW Golf as she crossed Beckenham High Street during a night out with friends on January 25.

Cheryl was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries after being struck just before 9pm, but died at about 12.30am.

Teary-eyed Clemments kept his head bowed for the short hearing in front of Judge Warwick McKinnon QC who adjourned sentencing until next month.
