Fifty people had to be evacuated from a block of flats last night after a kitchen fire.

Two crews from Dartford fire station went to Bramber Court, Bow Arrow Lane, Dartford at 10pm to find a small blaze in a kitchen.

The fire was contained and firefighters used pressure ventilation to clear the building of smoke. They spent one hour at the scene.

Lee Abel, watch manager at Dartford fire station, praised the occupant of the flat, who alerted other residents to the fire and had a working smoke alarm.

"It alerted the residents in the building and got them out nice and early. We would like to stress the importance of not leaving food unattended."
