A DOUBLE-decker bus took a detour - and got stuck.

The 160 bus decided to cross the central reservation on North Cray Road after a lorry had blocked the road into Bexley at around 2pm on Wednesday.

But despite the driver's best efforts to mount the kerb the empty bus came to a standstill on the grass, two wheels on either side of the dual carriageway.

Passers-by gawped in amazement at the unusual sight and a passing London Ambulance stopped to help direct traffic round the stranded vehicle.

A police transport truck came to the rescue of the straddled 160 and lifted it back on to the road half an hour later.
