DOGS are being drafted in to help rid Kent streets of anti-social behaviour.

Kent Police's campaign to reduce loutish behaviour in the county is to be stepped up over the summer with the force's dog section going out on patrol.

Handlers and their dogs will be taking to the streets across towns on Friday and Saturday nights.

They will be particularly looking at areas where there have been instances of violent crime and criminal damage.

The dog patrols are part of Operation Excalibur, which was launched by Chief Constable Mike Fuller earlier this year to combat forms of anti-social behaviour affecting the quality of life for people living in Kent.

Assistant Ch Con David Ainsworth said: "We are using the dogs and their handlers to support local police and partnership efforts.

"This will ensure that people are able to enjoy the facilities in our towns without fear or inconvenience.

"The expectation of our officers is one of friendly engagement with the public but with a clear message that anti-social conduct will not be tolerated."
