Disabled woman punched in supermarket

POLICE are searching for a man who punched a disabled woman in the face in an incident of trolley rage at a supermarket.

The 41-year-old woman was riding on a disability scooter in the toiletries aisle at the Asda Store in Westwood Road, Broadstairs. A man who was behind her pushing a trolley full of shopping, became annoyed because her scooter kept stopping. He verbally abused her. As she tried to pull away in her scooter, it stopped again.

The man then uttered further abuse and punched her in the face, causing swelling to her right cheek.

The culprit paid for his goods and left the store. He is described as white, in his early to mid forties, 5ft 8inches tall with short, mousey coloured hair.

He was wearing a blue t-shirt with blue, green and white stripes, a dark blue pair of jeans and black trainers.

CCTV recording in the store is being checked. Shoppers who may have witnessed the incident or who saw the man in the store are being asked to contact DC Pip Harvey, of Thanet Police, on 01843 222146.
