THE roof of a house in a Kent village has been badly damaged by fire.

Crews from Thames-side fire station and one from Strood were called to the detached property in Crown Green, Shorne, near Gravesend, at around 11.20am on Wednesday.

By 11.50am the fire had been put out but firefighters remained at the scene for a further two hours while they made the house safe.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said at the scene: "The whole of the roof has been affected."

No-one had to be rescued and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
