Desperate times, as they say, call for desperate measures.

Instead of sitting at home living off benefits one man has take
an unusual course of action in a bid to get a job.

Self-employed plasterer Kevin Crane has tied a banner to the
roundabout in Mill Way, Sittingbourne, close to the BP garage, with
the words: ‘Hard working man in need of work, ring me on 07807
081510.’

He came up with the idea while driving in to town with a
friend last Tuesday.

A few hours later he’d tied it to the Sittingbourne and Kemsley
Light Railway bridge but when he was contacted and asked to move it
the following day he decided to place it on the roundabout
instead.

The 23-year-old, who married his partner Esme in Italy last
month, said: “For the last seven months I’ve had very little
work.

“I said to my friend Jim ‘It’s doing my head in, I’m going to
buy a sheet from Asda and a pen and make a big banner and hang it
up.’

“He said I was crazy. When I told him I’d done it he went up and
had a look and said ‘fair play’.

“Esme wasn’t too happy to start with. She told me to take it
down but I said no. I’m going to leave it up.

“I’ve had leaflets made up and handed them out. I’ve applied for
lots of jobs on the internet and dropped my CV into different
places around town but I just can’t get any work.

“I suppose the banner is just a different way of doing
things.

“I’ve not had anyone ring me yet though.”

Mr Crane, of High Street, Milton Regis, says he’s not bothered
what type of work he is offered.

He added: “I just want a job that’s more permanent and regular
than being self employed.

“I’m not fussed what I do as long as I get paid, I need money to
live and pay the bills. We would like a family in the future but we
can’t start one until I get a job.

“It is easy to sit back and not work but it’s boring sitting at
home. My mates all work and I like working.”
