Defender Tony Sinclair keen to banish memories of 5-4 defeat when Gillingham take on Bury

Tony Sinclair is ready to brush off a practice match knock and put a few things right against Bury on Saturday.

Sinclair, pictured, played in the 5-4 defeat at Gigg Lane in September – during an uncomfortable start to the season for the Gills – and he is out to show just how improved they are now.

The central defender picked up an ankle injury in a midweek game against Millwall but does not think that will stop him from putting himself up for selection.

"I’ve had some ice on it and I should be fine," said the 25-year-old.

"Bury will be a decent test. When we went there we didn’t have the best of games and, although we scored four goals, defensively we just weren’t at the races.

"That game was just one where you think, ‘what is going on here?’ We just didn’t defend as a unit and that’s something we’ve worked on and we’ve cut a lot of bad things out. Hence the reason we’ve moved up the table.

"We are a lot more solid now and the other week against Rotherham Garry Richards and Simon King managed to keep top scorer Adam Le Fondre quiet. Hopefully, we can do the same this week with Bury’s Ryan Lowe."
