A Gravesend man accused of attempted murder appeared at Maidstone Crown Court today.

Girdaware Singh Basra is alleged to have attacked his former wife and her new husband with a meat cleaver on October 27.

They were found with head injuries and a cut finger in The Overcliffe, Gravesend.

Basra, 54, of Beaumont Drive, Northfleet, appeared for the brief preliminary hearing via a video link with Belmarsh Prison.

Prosecutor Jo Cope told the court he is charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Basra was remanded in custody until his plea and case management hearing on January 13. He is likely to stand trial in April.
