A YOUNG man who died when he plunged about 50ft into an empty fuel container last Thursday at Strath Services on the Isle of Grain, near Rochester, has been named by police.

He was 26-year-old Alexander McCully, from Motherwell, Scotland. He was employed by Mowlem.

Mr McCully had been carrying out repairs to a petrol and aviation fuel container. A company spokesman said: "We extend our deepest sympathies to Alexander's family and friends.

"Alexander had been employed by Mowlem as an improver/erector, working on steel site built tanks, since August of this year. The company and the Health and Safety Executive are currently undertaking a thorough investigation into the accident."
