Death crash driver charged

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a road crash that claimed the life of a young Thanet motorist.

Anthony Williams, 21, from Ramsgate, died in hospital after a car hit a lamp post in Ramsgate Road, Margate, on May 7.

Robert Thorpe, 42, from Brunswick Road at Birchington was arrested in May and released on bail pending a decision to prosecute.

He was formally charged when he returned to Margate police station on Sunday as part of his bail conditions, and will appear before the town’s magistrates court on Monday, October 6.

Mr Williams worked nights as a baker and forklift driver for Speciality Breads, and a tribute from his family at the time of the fatal accident stated: “There are no words that can explain how we are feeling as a family. Anthony will be deeply missed.”
