A moving tribute by the daughter of one of the three "great and heroic" men who perished in the Kent Air Ambulance crash 10 years ago earned warm applause in Rochester Cathedral.

Rachel Darby, now 15, spoke of the amazing bravery of her father Mark, fellow paramedic Tony Richardson, and pilot Graham Budden, who died on July 26, 1998.

Mark Darby, 37, of Borstal Road, Rochester, left a widow, Sue, and a son Luke, now 19, as well as Rachel.

During a poignant thanksgiving service on Friday, and accompanied by a recording of Enya's May it Be, Rachel told a congregation of 300 family members, friends, colleagues and guests: "Growing up without a male role model who can call me his 'little princess' has been playing on my mind.

"If we all remember the memories of these great and heroic men, then we will never lose them."

The congregation was welcomed by the Very Rev Adrian Newman, Dean of Rochester. Guests included the High Sheriff of Kent, civic dignitaries, air ambulance trustees, Kate Chivers, the first chief executive of the Kent Air Ambulance, and her successor David Philpott.
