A male cyclist has suffered head injuries after a serious crash with a car this afternoon.

The air ambulance landed on the A2 near Canterbury following the collision.

It happened on the coastbound carriage about a mile past the Bridge junction at about 12.45pm.

The man, who was riding a bicycle, was taken to a London hospital with injuries described as serious.

A section of the coastbound carriageway remains shut, causing heavy delays.

The London-bound carriageway was closed for a short time to allow the air ambulance to land.
