Gillingham appear close to signing experienced Crystal Palace player David Wright on loan.

The 32-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has only started one game for the Eagles this season in the Championship and is keen to gain first team football.

He started his career at Crewe, winning promotion with them in 2003 and earning himself a big-money move to Wigan.

Further success followed with his new club as they progressed to the Premier League. Wright went onto join Norwich on loan and signed for Ipswich in 2007.

Two years ago he joined Crystal Palace as a defender but most of his games he played as a defensive midfielder, something he did very effectively during the second half of 2010/11 season as the club fought off relegation.

He has made over 50 appearances for the Selhurst Park club but is not currently in manager Dougie Freedman’s first team plans.
