Crash driver airlifted to hospital

FIREFIGHTERS from Larkfield helped to rescue a 60-year-old man who was trapped in his car after a collision with a lorry.

The man was airlifted to Maidstone Hospital after firefighters battled for 40 minutes to cut him free from the wreckage on the M26 near Wrotham.

The front of the man’s Ford Mondeo was squashed under the back of a 38-tonne lorry.

The driver, from Crawley, suffered a severe laceration to his neck as well as injuries to his face and legs. He was transferred to a London hospital where he is in a critical condition.

The crash happened at about 3.45pm on Thursday. The 51-year-old lorry driver, from Herefordshire, was taken to Farnborough Hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
