'Cowardly' intruders steal from elderly man

A PENSIONER had hundreds of pounds stolen after he let two fraudsters into his home.

Police are appealing for information after the incident happened in Mayweed Avenue, Chatham, between 9am and 10am on November 23.

The man, in his 80s, let the two men into his property believing that they would be carrying out some gardening work.

But they ended up stealing the money plus various documents from him.

Det Con Richard Albert, who is leading the investigation, said: “These cowardly burglars prey on the vulnerable to make money and I would like to urge people not to let anyone into their home unless they show valid official identification.

"If you are unsure that the ID is real, ring the company or authority they claim to be from to check, no genuine caller will mind this.

“These people have acted in a heartless manner, showing no compassion for their victim. If anyone has vulnerable neighbours or family members I would ask them to ensure they are aware of this current crime trend so they can take appropriate action.”

Anyone who can help police with the investigation, is asked to call Medway police station on 01634 792530 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111
