Courage of Josie scoops her award

A top award has been won by Josie Russell.

The 21-year-old, who survived an horrific hammer attack which killed her mother and younger sister at Chillenden when she was nine, lined up alongside celebrities including Kim Cattrall, Alesha Dixon, the Sugababes and Myleene Klass as recipients of Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards.

Josie, who now lives in Wales, won the Ultimate Editor’s Choice Award for her courage and selflessness.

Despite the attack she achieved an art and design diploma is now studying for a degree in graphics.

She also finds time to devote to charities including Malaria No More and the Born Free Foundation and is an ambassador for the Vass Medical Foundation.

Cosmopolitan’s editor Louise Court said: “Josie is an extraordinary young woman who refuses to be a victim.

“She now dedicates her spare time to helping others less fortunate than her. She is truly awe-inspiring.”
