Climate Camp protesters prepare for Kingsnorth march

A march and rally in Rochester on Sunday will start 10 days of protest in Medway linked to plans to build a new power station at Kingsnorth on the Hoo peninsula.

Kent Police has worked closely with march organisers to ensure it runs safely and with minimal disruption,.

Marchers gathering in Rochester town centre will be joined by protesters walking to Medway from Heathrow and other parts of the country to take part in the Camp for Climate Action.

Police will aim to keep delays or disruption on the A228 to a minimum.

The marchers are due to assemble at the Blue Boar Lane car park, off the High Street, at around noon and will leave for Kingsnorth by 1.15pm. They are expected to arrive at the gates of the power station by 5pm.

Asst Chief Constable Gary Beautridge said: "We have made it clear to the protesters that we expect them to abide by the law and I hope that that the march will be conducted safely, peacefully and with minimum impact on local people."
