Chrysler unveils 'topless' duo

CHRYSLER has unveiled its latest products at the Detroit Motor Show, together with four striking concept cars and the announcement that Dodge will be launching in Europe.

For the UK market, Chrysler took the tops off two vehicles that are due to arrive during 2004 - the new PT Cruiser Convertible and the new Chrysler Crossfire Roadster.

The Roadster's tapered, "boat tail" appearance emphasises the mammoth rear wheels while a retractable spoiler activates when the car reaches 62 miles per hour. To achieve an even more dynamic appearance, the car features satin silver painted sport bars just behind the driver and passenger seats.

With its distinct styling and best-in-class roominess, the new PT Cruiser Convertible is full of appeal for the soft-top customer.

Larry Lyons, vice president - small vehicle product team engineering, said: "Nine different seat configurations and a pass-through boot opening with enough room to store two golf bags make the car more versatile than its competitors.

"The combination of the sport bar design and position, together with enhancements to the body structure results in an exceptionally quiet ride."

Pricing, specification and timescales for the arrival of the cars in the UK have yet to be confirmed.
