Vandals have desecrated graves, burnt down trees and smashed chapel widows in a spate of attacks at a cemetery.

Gillingham Cemetery in Woodlands Road contains the graves of about 2,500 military personnel and some of those headstones have had graffiti scrawled over them.

A child’s grave was also vandalised over the past couple of weeks.

Cllr Reh Chishti, in charge of community safety and enforcement for Medway Council, said: “People come to the cemetery to reflect and pay respects to their loved ones, it should not be spoilt by these vandals."

If you or your family have been affected by this vandalism, call the newsdesk on 01634 227803.
