Child porn actor's Oxford talk scrapped

Cancelled: Chris Langham
Cancelled: Chris Langham

Comedy actor Chris Langham has had his invitation to speak at the Oxford Union withdrawn.

The two-time Bafta winner from Golford, near Cranbrook, had been asked to give a talk about his recent conviction for downloading indecent images of children.

But pressure from the media and children's charities has led the union to change its mind.

Union spokesman Ben Glazer said: "We felt that the debate surrounding Chris Langham's invitation had begun to overshadow what is sure to be an exciting and positive term.

"We don't want to cause upset or offence, and we're certainly not courting controversy, so cancelling the event seemed the right thing to do."
