Watching Cardiff celebrate promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday was a good illustration of what we are all striving for.

We experienced something similar 12 months ago, when we were promoted to the Championship and it’s a great feeling after many months of effort.

We wanted to try to spoil their promotion party but obviously didn’t do that. A 0-0 draw didn’t really help our slim chances of sneaking into the play-offs, either.

We were a bit disappointed because we performed well and had a few chances. I had a good chance to win the game.

But there were a lot of positives and to take four points off the team everyone believes will be champions is a good achievement.

We’re now unbeaten in six games away from home, which is impressive and have kept clean sheets in our last four away matches so there is plenty about which we can feel proud, including last Saturday’s club record 6-0 away win at Barnsley.

You could argue Cardiff took their foot off the pedal in the last 10 minutes on Tuesday because they had heard rivals Watford were losing to Millwall and that they were virtually over the line.

We had some late chances but couldn’t take them and it’s testament to our recent run that we’re disappointed with only a point away to the leaders.

It’s been a bit of a topsy-turvy campaign. When we were 2-0 down at home to Bolton Wanderers last month things weren’t looking too good but the boys pulled through and that gave us a platform for us to finish with a flourish.

The table has been so tight all season, so it’s nice to be able to play a little more freely with relegation not really an issue. In fact, this season will seem a bit better when we look back on it.

Wolves come to The Valley on Saturday with their own problems as they fight for survival but we will go out there and try to record another home win.

Our Valley form has picked up and we want to finish the season on a high.
