Striker Yann Kermorgant was on target against his former club as Charlton secured their first win since returning to the Championship with a 2-1 success over Leicester at The Valley on Tuesday.

The Frenchman and strike partner Bradley Wright-Phillips struck in the first half, and although substitute Andy King pulled a goal back for the Foxes early in the second period the Addicks dug in to claim a valuable three points.

Addicks manager Chris Powell (pictured) praised his players for learning a harsh lesson quickly after they had been hit by a late sucker punch in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Birmingham.

"I suppose that is another lesson learned," Powell said, "because if we had been that clinical on Saturday then we would be sitting here with six points. We’ve learned quickly and it is good for Bradley and Yann.

"It was a terrific game for the neutral, end-to-end. We were clinical in the first period but they were definitely in the ascendancy second half."

Wright-Phillips opened the scoring with a fierce shot from 20 yards on 18 minutes before Kermorgant buried a shot in the bottom corner just after the half hour.

The pair had come in for mild criticism at the weekend for not taking their chances but, with the Addicks’ new signing Ricardo Fuller already breathing down their necks, they made amends on Tuesday.

King reduced the deficit eight minutes after the restart but Charlton clung on for a morale-boosting success.
