Charlotte's eco-design success

A career in design or town planning could be calling for Charlotte Winfield, a pupil at Adisham Church of England Primary School.

She has beaten thousands of other schoolchildren to become one of just 14 runners-up in a national competition to design an eco-holiday village.

Charlotte, 10, was presented with a framed certificate to celebrate her achievement by teacher Julie Simpson, who said: “The children love learning about how to be more environmentally conscious.

“This competition, which asked them to create a whole eco-holiday village, allowed them to find out more about green holidaying, while allowing their imaginations to go wild.

“A lot of hard work went into the entries and we were delighted to hear that Charlotte’s entry, which included elements such as recycling, solar panels for electricity and use of bicycles to travel around the village, did so well.”

Kelly Wigfield, project manager at Keycamp, which organised the competition, said: “We received thousands of entries from schools across the country but Charlotte’s colourful and imaginative design really stood out. She is a well-deserved runner-up.”
