Centre needs a £4m makeover

GILLINGHAM'S Black Lion leisure centre needs a £4m refurbishment, according to Medway Council.

The building is 30 years old, owned by the council but run under contract by private operator, Serco. Their contract has been extended a number of times, but now it is to end on March 31.

The council will resume running the centre, along with the Strand leisure park and open-air swimming pool.
