A couple are lucky to be alive after a car careered off the road and ploughed into their front room.

The smash left a gaping hole and crumbling brickwork in the front wall of the property in Wrotham Road, Meopham.

Owners Ray and Pam Cleggett were enjoying a cup of tea with friends in another room, but said that had they not had visitors they would normally have been sitting watching television just a few feet from where the blue BMW convertible struck.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to Darent Valley Hospital with minor injuries following the crash at about 11.45am on Monday.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash. If you have any information about it call Sgt Tim Harris at North Kent Police Station on 01474 366351.
