THE wife of a man who wired up a home-made bomb in her car has welcomed the 10-year jail sentence imposed on him.

Caroline Bottom, 50, of Main Road, Chattenden, near Rochester, miraculously escaped with just singed hair and shock from the explosion last Christmas Eve.

Robert Bottom, 36, formerly of Green Close, Hawkinge, near Folkestone, was said to have rigged up the device after starting an affair with a woman he met on the Internet.

Mrs Bottom said: "I am satisfied with the court result. I am going to put this incident behind me and look to the future. I would like to thank Medway police for their help and support through this difficult time."

Bottom admitted causing an explosion likely to endanger life when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court earlier this week.

He denied attempted murder and that plea was accepted. The charge was left on the file.
