Canterbury picked up a bonus point in an entertaining 55-31 defeat at Worthing - in a match that produced 14 tries.

Worthing are expected to be among the leading candidates for National 2 South promotion this season and their running rugby put their attacking credentials on display with wing Joe Maslem the chief destroyer with four tries.

Chris Hinkins and Wim Baars grabbed the city side’s first tries, with Scott Browne converting the first, to level things up before their hosts restored their 12-point lead.

Again Canterbury responded through a converted Peter Kelly try, to cut the gap to five, before Worthing stepped up their efforts, scoring three more tries.

Canterbury managed to earn a bonus-point try from Jim Green, before Baars added his second. However, by that time, Worthing had scored two more of their own to seal the win.
