Gillingham scored four goals away from home on Saturday but lost a nine-goal thriller to Bury at Gigg Lane.

There was no indication of the drama to come as they trailed 2-0 at half-time having failed to put a shot on target.

But the introduction of Mark McCammon and Stefan Payne at the break led the fightback.

Andy Bishop put Bury ahead on 15 minutes and then Ryan Lowe converted a penalty on 33 minutes to make it 2-0 - both goals coming from defensive errors by Lance Cronin and Josh Gowling.

Adebayo Akinfenwa (pictured) prodded in to make it 2-1 on 47 minutes but Bishop's clever flick made it 3-1 moments later.

Gills then scored twice in two minutes - first Akinfenwa heading in and then Danny Spiller finding the net from 20 yards.

Efe Sodje headed in against his old club to make it 4-3 on 62 minutes but four minutes later Gills were level again through Chris Palmer's stunning volley.

However, Bury had the last laugh when Lowe curled home on 73 minutes and Gills failed to find a late equaliser despite their best efforts.
