A Folkestone chef has been jailed after hurling a torrent of racist abuse at two fast food restaurant staff.

Drunken Ben Hurley, 32 screamed vile insults at two members of staff at one of the town’s Burger King outlets.

He accused one Venezuelan assistant of not being able to speak English and told him to “f*** off out of this country.”

Then, Canterbury Crown Court heard, he aimed his racist rants at a female manager calling her a “f***** b****”.

The yob then slapped her across the face shouting: “If you don’t understand English, then go back to your own country, you Slovakian b****.”

The incident in August last year was witnessed by an off-duty people officer – and Hurley, from Bradstone Road, Folkestone was arrested.

Denzil Pugh, prosecuting, said Hurley was drunk when he went into the restaurant and began asking for a man called Curtis who wasn't there.

Mr Orusha Venazio said he wasn't in and Hurley launched into him.

He said:"If you don't understand English go back to your own country. F*** off back to where you came from."

The Slovakian-born manageress asked him to leave but Hurley got more angry and shouted more abuse.

The manageress told him to go and escorted him to the door but when they got outside he slapped her in the face, said Mr Pugh.

Defence barrister Richard Saynor said Hurley was the head chef of a Folkestone restaurant where he worked with people “of every nationality”.

“There are a lot of people working there and his boss said that he works from people from all ethnicities and they all look up to Mr Hurley and work well with him.”

Judge Adele Williams jailed Hurley – who has previous convictions for assault – for nine months after he admitted the racially aggravated assault, racially aggravated harassment and breaching his bail.

She told him:“ You were the worse for wear because of drink and you racially abused two members of staff in a thoroughly unpleasant way.”
