A WARD has been closed at the Medway Maritime Hospital at Gillingham because of the norovirus, which causes diarrhoea and vomiting.

Eight patients in or near Byron Ward at the hospital were found to have symptoms, which has led to a curb on new admissions or transfers.

Infection control procedures, including intensive cleaning, are being carried out, and the situation will be reviewed on Monday.
