Phil Ruggles' first goal for the club wasn't enough for Bromley as they suffered a home defeat at the hands of Maidenhead United in Blue Square South on Saturday.

A physical game that saw seven bookings burst into life 14 minutes from time when Maidenhead's Alex Wall picked the ball up in a central area before running at the Lillywhites' defence and firing a left-foot shot low past Gareth Williams.

Ruggles was then introduced off the bench and had levelled the scores within three minutes of coming on.

There were nine minutes left when his half-volley from the edge of the box flew in past the Maidenhead keeper.

But having thought they had rescued a point, Bromley switched off from the restart and were hit with a sucker punch almost immediately.

Daniel Brown broke on the right wing and Williams could only parry his long-range cross-shot into the path of subsitute Kieran Knight who had the simplest of tasks to win the game for the visitors.

Canvey Island v Cray Wanderers

A desperate second half display saw Cray Wanderers crash to a 5-1 Ryman League Premier Division defeat at Canvey Island.

The visitors only trailed 1-0 at the break after James Rowe netted in first half stoppage time.

But they collapsed in the second half as goals from Rob King, Greg Cohen and a brace from substitute Jason Hallett put Canvey 5-0 up.

The only bright point for Cray came in the last minute when new signing Marcus Cassius grabbed a well-taken goal on his debut.
