A TEENAGE girl is fighting for her life in intensive care at Maidstone Hospital today after falling off a footbridge over the M20 near Wrotham.

It is thought that the girl may have jumped deliberately. The girl suffered serious head injuries and her condition was described as critical.

Police officers have been trying to contact her relatives. They received a number of calls from motorists reporting seeing a young woman standing on the wrong side of the barrier.

The coastbound carriageway of the motorway, just past junction two at Wrotham, was closed for 40 minutes after the girl fell onto the road.

A spokesman confirmed the girl, described as being in her late teens, survived the fall, which happened at about 11am. She was taken to Maidstone Hospital by air ambulance.
