Breakthrough title win for bowler

For the first time in her 20 years membership of Cliftonville Bowls Club Wyn Smith has won the ladies singles championships. In the final she defeated Olive Johnston 21-8.

Chris Rose was the dominant player in the men’s section as he claimed both the singles and the yard of jack trophies. Winners of the handicap pairs were Pat Hayes and John Dancer.

Some of the finals had to be postponed due to bad weather but other ladies section winners were: two-wood singles, Sue Newland; yard of jack, Daphne Fever; pairs, Maggie Warburton and Barbara Smith.

One of the highlights of the club’s season has been the growth of the junior section thanks to the efforts of organiser John Palmer and valued help from Thanet Council and the Kent CCC.

The greens at the St George’s Lawns have been outstanding this year - a tribute to the dedicated staff who tend them.
