The Paralympics are coming to Kent after Brands Hatch secured the road cycling events.

The West Kingsdown race track was the final Games venue to be unveiled, joining other confirmed locations such as Wembley Arena, Wimbledon and Lords Cricket Ground.

Organisers chose the circuit, which was originally developed aas a grass track cycle racing venue, because it offers good views for spectators and a tough challenge for competitors.

Paralympic champion Rachel Morris, 32, of Farnham, Surrey, said: "I'm really excited about competing at Brands Hatch and hopefully I'll pick up a good medal on home turf.

"It's a really exciting circuit and it's in a great location. Technically, the track is fantastic, with its flat and undulating aspects."

During the Games, there will be 32 road cycling events for men and women with a range of disabilities including visual impairments, cerebral palsy and amputations.

More than 200 athletes from around 40 countries will compete on bicycles, tricycles, tandems and hand cycles.

LOCOG chairman Lord Sebastian Coe said: "We're thrilled to be bringing such a high profile and exciting sport to Brands Hatch.

"Our ParalympicsGB cycling team won 20 medals at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, including 17 golds, and I hope that today's announcement will inspire and excite our Paralympians.

"This venue will really bring the magic of the Games to life for thousands of spectators."
