Boost for amateur radio fans

Amateur radio fans at Chatham House School will get a boost when Hilderstone Radio Society moves its HQ to the school this summer.

From July the group will transfer from its current location at Hilderstone Adult Education Centre in Broadstairs to Chatham House, which has a thriving amateur radio club as part of its after-school science activities.

Head of physics, John Hislop, a keen amateur radio fan, said: “This is very

exciting news for the club and the school as it forms a partnership where both sides benefit.

“The club will be able to do construction work in the science laboratories and set up an array of aerials for their communications.

“The pupils will benefit from the members’ expertise when they support them in gaining their licence and progressing further in the hobby.”

Chatham House recently hosted a training day for amateur radio enthusiasts in Kent.

Clubs all over the south east sent members to be trained in how to present the foundation licence course.
