Bookmaker's staff thwart man armed with machete

A YOUNG man who fled empty-handed after a bungled robbery at a bookmaker's on Sunday, August 19, is still being hunted by police.

The would-be robber, brandishing a large machete, burst into Ladbrokes in Perry Street, Northfleet, and demanded money at at about 3.55pm.

But when staff refused to hand over any cash he fled on foot in the direction of nearby Old Road West.

The man is white, thought to be aged between 20 and 25, 5ft 9in tall and slim. He had very long, black hair and was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt, light coloured jeans and a distinctive motocross-style crash helmet with a jaw piece and peak. It was fluorescent orange with black flame graphics.
