Bomb scare at Tunbridge Wells shopping centre

Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package found in Tunbridge Wells' Royal Victoria Place shopping centre.

The shopping centre and adjoining car park were evacuated, and surrounding roads were closed, after the discovery of a rucksack at about 10.45am on Saturday.

Its contents were later found to be harmless and the shopping centre reopened shortly after 2pm.

Police thanked shoppers and residents for their patience.
