Blaze breaks out in boarded-up building

Fire crews were called out to a derelict building on Medway City Estate, Strood.

They dealt with a blaze, thought to have been be started deliberately, on the mezzanine floor of a disused office unit on Commissioners Road.

Crews from Strood, Hoo and Medway fire stations were alerted at 2.50pm on Sunday and spent an hour and a half dousing the flames. Two fire engines from Faversham were called but stood down.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “The building was boarded up so we had to break our way in.

"There were propane gas cylinders in the area but luckily these were not near the fire.”
