Barry Fuller to remain as Gillingham captain

Barry Fuller will remain Gillingham captain for as long as he wants it, says boss Andy Hessenthaler.

Fuller was installed as the Gills skipper by previous boss Mark Stimson and the new manager sees now reason to make a change.

"I’ve got no reason to change that," said Hessenthaler.

"Barry leads by example and I know he’s a good character. He’ll give everything he can for this football club.

"I’m happy for Barry to continue unless he comes to see me and says that it’s effecting his game and he needs to concentrate on himself. We would then think about changing it. He loves that responsibility and long may that continue for him."

The Ashford-based full-back recently signed a new two-year contract at the club and has so far made 97 appearances for the Gills, having joined in January 2008 from Stevenage.
