Barmaid Stacey loses one of quads

STACEY Theobald, an 18-year-old Gillingham barmaid who was expecting quads, has lost one of the babies.

The teenger, who is 14 weeks pregnant, was told the news during a routine scan at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Her uncle, Paul Tyrrell, of Albany Road, Gillingham, confirmed the loss, but said she was doing well. He stressed: "She found it hard at first, but is bearing up. She's just taking it easy."

Hospital staff have ordered her to relax and are keeping an eye on her.

Stacey, of Davenport Avenue, Gillingham, beat million-to-one odds to conceive the four babies without the aid of fertility treatment, despite being warned by doctors when she was younger she might be infertile.

She and her boyfriend, Mike Spendiff, 23, recently announced their engagement.
